Guardian ad litem

Guardian ad litem is a person appointed to protect the interest of the child in a custody proceeding. The Guardian ad litem generally meets with both parties, as well as the child, if the child is age-appropriate; and observes the interaction between the parent and the child, and any members of the household; conducts a visit of the parties’ respective homes, and may speak to any relevant professionals, such as teachers, doctors and social workers.
