Ashtabula County Standard Parenting Order

Ashtabula County Standard Parenting Order

Custody cases are heard in two forums. If a couple is married the case is heard in the Court of Common Pleas, where the divorce or dissolution was filed and if a child is born outside the union of marriage the case is heard in the juvenile division of the Court of Common Pleas.

If parties cannot agree upon a parenting schedule, they shall participate in mediation. If parties cannot develop their own parenting schedule through mediation, the parties shall provide the court with verification of their work schedule and available parenting time.

Unless the court finds that parenting time should be restricted, the court may adopt a standard parenting order. The standard companionship order of the Ashtabula County juvenile court and the Ashtabula County standard parenting order of the domestic relations court differ. Specifically, the juvenile court has one order and the domestic relations court standard parenting orders vary depending upon the age of the child, for example there is one schedule for children between the ages of infancy to age 2, and another parenting schedule for children between the ages of 2 to 13, and a third for teenagers between age of 13 and 18.
